Advancing Education

"It is a pleasure to invite you to participate in a PawPeds G1 course in English starting on Thursday September 24, 2015 and ending on Thursday November 5, 2015......"

After waiting since February to receive this invitation, you can imagine how exciting it is to finally be invited to participate in the first of three online courses through The PawPeds PawAcademy in Sweden. These courses are designed to educate cat owners and breeders.

"General course step 1, or G1 for short, is mainly about cat ownership. It is basically for beginners, but also for more experienced breeders who later want to take the higher courses. Step 2 of the general course, G2, is mainly about having a litter but also includes basic genetics and breeding plans. Step 3, G3, is more in depth about selective breeding, genetics, physiology, cat food, behaviour, etc. This is for breeders who have had a few litters already and have taken step 1 and 2 of the general course."

My goal is to complete all three general courses before possibly pursuing a more in-depth study of Feline Behavioral Psychology. This field is of great interest to me and is a large reason why I decided to begin breeding in the first place. I love to observe cats and their relationships with one another, other animals, and humans. There is an endless amount to learn about the health, genetics, and breeding of cats. Understanding the proper dietary needs of felines is a subject I have an interest in, and after doing extensive research on the subject, I now feed my breeding cats a species-appropriate raw diet. (This fits in well with my own philosophy of health, as I have been able to take control of my own health largely through providing my body with proper nutrition.)

PawPeds is a fantastic resource for both owners and breeders of cats. There are in-depth scientific articles provided on a variety of subjects, as well as basic information for cat ownership. Since within the United States, little to no government regulation for cat breeding exists, it's no surprise that there is also a serious lack of resources and education available on the subject. This is why seeking out information from countries where cat breeding is not only government regulated but also a very popular hobby can be very beneficial.

I first became aware of the PawPeds PawAcademy program through a Swedish Ragdoll breeder I have been following for some time through Instagram. While browsing through her website one day I came across where she described these courses she had taken through PawPeds. I knew that she and I are like-minded in that we are fascinated by feline behavior and genetics, so the mention of education in that field caught my interest. After investigating the program, I right away joined the waiting list for the first class, and have been waiting ever since. I look forward to completing these three courses and being able to apply what I learn to become the best breeder I possibly can, and being able to share what I learn with others.
